Please read these FAQ carefully before contacting us, most of the answers can be found here.

[update 30.06.2021]

Which covid tests are carried out for trips abroad?

The laboratory performs the following analyses in connection with departure to a foreign destination:

  • covid PCR test > result available after maximum 24 hours
  • covid antigen test > result available after maximum 6 hours

Check in advance which test your travel destination requires on reopen.europa.eu.
Always ask for a PCR test if you have doubts or do not know. After all, the PCR test will be accepted for all destinations.

Do I need to make an appointment for a COVID test prior to travelling abroad?

Yes, to take a COVID test for travel, you need to make an appointment AFTER you have created a code on www.myhealth.belgium.be.

This is done as follows:

  1. Go to www.myhealth.belgium.be
  2. Select 'request activation code for free or paid covid test'.
  3. After this you will need to identify yourself using a digital key (Itsme, eID card reader...) where it will be checked whether you are entitled to a free PRC test.
  4. After that you will receive an activation code (16 characters), which is valid for 10 days.
  5. With this code you can book an appointment: either directly consult the agenda via testcovid.doclr.be or via the link on sintmaria.be.
  6. Make an appointment for the COVID-19 test at AZ Sint-Maria during the following opening hours:
    > weekdays: 7.30 a.m. - 5.30 p.m.
    > saturday : 7.30 - 12.00 hrs.

From 1 July onwards, COVID-19 tests at AZ Sint-Maria will only be carried out by appointment in case of foreign travel.

Do I need an activation code to be tested?

Yes, you ALWAYS need a code to make an appointment, even for an antigen test. Without a code, you cannot book an appointment via testcovid.doclr.be.
You must create this code (16 characters) yourself via the link on www.myhealth.belgium.be.
Please note: the code is only valid for 10 days, after which it expires. Do not request your test code more than 10 days before your test.

REMEMBER: for each person to be tested, a personal code must be requested with the person's own eID.

NO ACTIVATION CODE = NO APPOINTMENT = NO TEST

Do I always have to have a PCR test done with the activation code?
Or can I still opt for the cheaper antigen te

When you pay for the test, you can choose on the spot whether you want the PCR test (€50) or the antigen test (€16.85). You will be asked this question when you register.
Check in advance which test your travel destination requires on reopen.europa.eu.
Always ask for a PCR test if you have doubts or do not know. The PCR test will be accepted for all destinations.

The free test is automatically a PCR test.

How much does a covid test cost if you travel abroad?
Will it be reimbursed by the mutual insurance company?

If you are not entitled to a free PCR test, the cost of the test and the collection will be borne by the traveller.

  • The cost price of a covid PCR test is € 50 and includes all costs.
  • The cost price of a covid antigen test is € 16.85 and includes all costs.

You must pay this charge at the hospital reception desk before the test is taken. Payment is only made by Bancontact or VISA. Cash is not accepted.

Can I get tested for free?

Citizens who have not yet had the opportunity to be fully vaccinated are entitled to 2 free PCR tests, which can only be applied for by creating a code via  www.myhealth.belgium.be.

Free PCR tests cannot be used in the following cases:

  • You have already been fully vaccinated (2 weeks after your last vaccination) and therefore have a vaccination certificate to travel
  • You have refused an invitation to be vaccinated
  • You have already generated a code for a free PCR test 2 times
  • You are not a Belgian resident
  • You only want an antigen test

Where do I have to register for a test in connection with a planned trip abroad?

Covid-19 tests for foreign travel are done at the hospital.  In the reception area, please choose row 1.

  • The receptionist will check your identification, register your request, print out an identification vignette and refer you to the administration desk.

Does the certificate with the test result meet all the validity criteria?

The certificate with the result of the test in function of the foreign trip fulfils all the requirements.

  • Drawn up in English.
  • Contains the following information: test type, contact details of the medical centre, date and time of the test, the result of the test.
  • In case of an antigen test, the certificate must also specify the test used.

Where and when can you find the result of the test?

You will find the test result in your online medical record at www.cozo.be as soon as possible - in principle within 24 hours.
After a negative test, you can print or photograph the evidence.
You register in CoZo with your eID (identity card reader) or itsme (app).

If you do not have a digital key (eID, itsme ...), you can come and collect the printed result the day after the test. Please mention this when taking the test. The printed result will be made available at the reception desk of the hospital.
The EU certificates are offered digitally via the website www.myhealth.belgium.be or via the new covidsafe.be app. Users can only request their own certificates and those of their child(ren). They must first register digitally, which is the easiest way via the identification app itsme. Each certificate includes a unique QR code that can be scanned. Users can save this code in the app itself, save it in pdf format or print it out on paper.

Do I have to be tested when I return from a trip abroad?

Before you start your return journey, you must always fill in the Belgian PLF form online within 48 hours before your arrival in Belgium.

https://travel.info-coronavirus.be/public-health-passenger-locator-form

On the basis of this information, you may be informed by text message with an attached code that you need to be tested. This means that you are returning from a red zone (i.e. high risk) and will have to go into quarantine for 7 days.

Where are covid tests performed after returning from foreign trips?

As these tests are only necessary after return from a red zone (i.e. high risk), the administration must take place in a secure environment.

The entrance hall of AZ Sint-Maria is not the right place for this. You can go to the Zennevallei Triage Centre, situated on the staff car park of AZ Sint-Maria.
You must always make an appointment via triage.doclr.be. Choose "yes" for symptoms, and then select the sampling station "Triage Zennevallei - CONTAINERS - Parking personeel AZ Halle".
